Exercise prescription refers to the specific plan of fitness-related activities that are designed for a specified purpose. Due to the specific and unique needs and interests of the patient, the goal of exercise prescription should be focused on motivation and customization, thus making achieving goals more likely to become successful. At Destiny Chiropractic, Dr. Terri Bonner provides patients with prescriptive exercise programs based on their individual needs and goals.
Exercise is very important to overall health and wellness; however, the timing of the introduction of exercises is VITAL. Exercise builds strong muscles. This strength is important in supporting your body. If the muscles are strong surrounding a subluxation (vertebral misalignment, vertebra out of place) then that strength is used to maintain the subluxation. That makes the adjustments hold for a shorter period of time and lengthens the care plan. At Destiny Chiropractic, we watch for signs that your body is on the road to recovery and then begin introducing exercises slowly that will help you maintain your new corrected positions and help speed your recovery. Some of these exercises can be done in our office; others will need to be done at home (home work).
Examples of Exercises to do at Home:
Shoulder Blade Squeeze
Pull your elbows back, then squeeze your shoulder blades together. Pause, then repeat 7 more times.
Look up – all the way up! – and hold there while counting to 10.
Gently turn your head to your right and then to your left. Hold each side while you count to 10.
Shoulder Shrugs and Roll
Raise your shoulders up, then down. Slowly circle your shoulders backwards. Repeat 3 times.
Gently bend your neck to your right and then to your left. Hold each side while you count to 10.
